SAN DIEGO’S ORIGINAL FOOD + WINE FESTIVAL RETURNS
For over 20 years San Diego has hosted possibly the BEST wine and food festival in the country. With rows and rows of San Diego’s best restaurants and chefs handing out unlimited bites to go with world class wines, all served with glorious views of San Diego Bay, well come on, does it get any better?
The event happens every November - check here for this years date. While the rest of the country is bundling up for the winter months in San Diego we’re basking in the sunshine and celebrating what makes living in San Diego so great. Stroll the booths of gourmet offerings as you sip your wine, chill to the live music, the people watching is nearly as good as the food.

San Diego Food + Wine Festival
WHAT IS IT: A weeklong celebration of food and wine leading up to The Grand Tasting on Saturday and The Grand Fiesta on Sunday. Both of those events are held on the large grassy area behind Seaport Village with stunning bay views and feature rows and rows of booths handing out unlimted gourmet food and premium wines. The Grand Tasting features some of San Diego’s finest restaurants and chefs and The Grand Fiesta is all about finding the best taco in San Diego.

WHERE IS IT? The two tasting events are held at the Embarcadero Marina Park North, the huge grassy area behind Seaport Village with views of the San Diego Bay and Coronado Bay Bridge.
IS THE GRAND TASTING ON SATURDAY FANCY? Not too fancy. Some people come dressed up but this is San Diego where dressing up might mean a new shirt from The Gap. No need to dress to impress, unless that’s you and then you do you.
WHAT’S THE TACO EVENT ON SUNDAY? The Grand Fiesta moves from the Liberty Station site and as of 2026 will be held at the same location as The Grand Tasting. It’s typically a chill event focused on finding the best taco in San Diego. Unlike a standard food festival where you get a “sample”, at The Grand Fiesta you get tacos, street and full sized, and all creative and unique. Mexican wines to wash it down, it’s become a San Diego tradition.
WHAT’S THE ICON AND LEGENDS FRIDAY EVENING EVENT? What was forever called The Grand Decant has been renamed. It’s held at an event space on Hancock St and features mainly wine tasting with some small bites. It’s marketed as fancy but it’s pretty standard San Diego attire and vibe.
AND THERE ARE OTHER EVENTS? Don’t get confused but yes, there are other wine and food events leading up the weekend. These include special dinner events, and a Baja wine and food excursion.

FRIDAY: ICONS + LEGENDS EVENING EVENT
Indoor event with premium wines and scattered food bites. Geared towards more serious wine lovers looking to try the best of the best. Expect luxury wines and rare bottle tastings. The food bites are secondary so I would plan on a late dinner or after-event snack.
Wally Report Card: A super fun event for those seeking the best wines. You rarely find this many fine wines in one place that are all open for unlimited tastings. Grade: B+
SATURDAY: THE GRAND TASTING
This is the wine and food festival that all others are judged by. Rows of booths and San Diego’s best chefs and restaurants handing out unlimited bites along with plenty of fine wines - Napa, Sonoma, Paso, all represented. Unparalleled people watching with the gorgeous San Diego Bay as the backdrop. Aren’t we lucky to live here?
Wally Report Card: Easily the best food and wine event I’ve ever been to. With San Diego’s best chefs all trying to outdo each other every bite is delicious. Plenty of great wines, beer and cocktails to sample as well. Grade: A+
BONUS: THE GRAND TASTING VIP EXPERIENCE
While the standard Grand Tasting experience is plenty for most people there’s no denying that the VIP EXPERIENCE has plenty of people with some serious FOMO wishing they splurged. Live music, better wines, and even more gourmet food to samples.
Wally Report Card: The VIP Experience is the overachiever and one of the few VIP experiences that offers more - a lot more - than what is included with the General Admission ticket. Grade: A
SUNDAY: THE GRAND FIESTA
What started out as a humble event to find the best taco in San Diego has grown into a full-on Taco Festival, pitting taco against taco and you get to be the judge. Come hungry because you’re going to want to try them all and many of the tacos are full size. Of course there are plenty of beverages and Mexico wines to wash it all down along with live music and a cool laid back vibe.
Wally Report Card: If The Grand Tasting is the main event The Grand Fiesta is the after-party. Everyone is relaxed and chill, the crowds are very manageable, it’s just a great event. WALLY REPORT CARD: A-

Is the San Diego Food + Wine Fest Worth It? 👍
It’s 2026 and everything is so expensive, right? It’s not hard to spend a couple hundred bucks on dinner for two these days. Heck, even a “light” lunch costs $75 to $100 if you dare add a beverage. So in a way it’s pretty easy to justify spending about twice that for The Grand Tasting at the San Diego Food + Wine Fest. But is it worth it?
I should add that I’m “frugal” (aka “cheap”). I’m the sort of guy who studies the menu at Roberto’s and tries to figure out once and for all if a combo meal is better than a la carte. So dropping a couple of hundred bucks per person has to pencil out. And it does. I’m not going to pull out a calculator but if you figure you stop at 20 booths for gourmet bites and have the equivalent of five glasses you are there, more than there.
And you don’t have to stop at my limit. Keep going, keep tasting, go back again and again to your favorites. There’s no Costco guilt for taking another. Find that perfect wine. Sip that high end cocktail. Is that a speakeasy?? Let’s go!
There’s also the vibe, something you can’t put a price tag on. How fun it is to be part of the scene, the views of the bay, the live music, it makes you feel so lucky to live in San Diego and a great way to kick off the Holiday Season.
So yes, I’m giving The San Diego Food + Wine Fest a big thumbs up - WORTH IT. If you only go to one food and wine event this year make it this one. It’s the OG and still the best.

Wally’s Tips and FAQ’s on the San Diego Food + Wine Festival
As someone who has only missed a couple of years since the San Diego Food + Wine Fest started over 20 years ago I'm sort of an expert. If this is your first time and a bit confused you’re in the right place.
SO MANY EVENTS - WHICH IS THE BEST ONE?
The Grand Tasting on Saturday is the key event of the San Diego Food + Wine Fest. All the other events are built around this one. Your only decision will be whether to opt for standard General Admission, Early Entry, or VIP.
My take? The Early Entry is worth the extra $50 as it not only gets you in an hour before the main crowd but that extra hour lets you mill around and relax after you’ve had your fill of food. Use this time to people watch with a glass of wine, it’s great fun.
The VIP tent is a splurge for sure. It gets you early entry and access to the big tent where the live music is playing along with plenty of premier wines and food. It’s not essential as there’s so much to eat and taste outside the tent but you will have a moment of jealousy when you see the VIPs so casually strolling into the VIP area while you’re staring from the outside.
DID THE GRAND FIESTA MOVE? WHERE IS IT AT?
Yes, the Grand Fiesta has always been held at Liberty Station but as of 2026 it’s at the same bayside location as The Grand Tasting. I suspect they will be upping the game of this once humble event with the expanded location and views. The event itself has always been a favorite. San Diego makes some great tacos (stating the obvious) and how fun is it to eat as many different types of tacos as you can in an afternoon and then vote on who made the best one? More details as we get closer.
WHERE DO YOU PARK AND WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET THERE?
You’ll find plenty of parking at both Seaport Village and the Convention Center along with the usual downtown lots but I strongly suggest you Uber in or use the Coaster or Trolley. No matter what you’re thinking now there’s a very good chance you’ll be in DUI territory after three hours of sipping so do the smart thing and find alternatives.
For those in North County the Coaster drops you off at the downtown Santa Fe Depot and it’s a short 10 minute walk to get to the event. You can also grab a trolley as well. The added value in public transportation is you get to avoid the massive parking lot crowd all trying to exit at the same time.
For locals who never visit Seaport Village this is also a good time to wander a bit and grab a cup of coffee at the bookstore.
HOW EARLY SHOULD I GET THERE?
I would suggest you aim to arrive an 45 minutes to an hour before your ticket entry time as people line up and who wants to be at the back of the line? You don’t have to get crazy but you’re paying for three hours so why not take advantage of every minute?
ARE THERE ANY EASTER EGGS?
No promises but for the past few years there have been secret speakeasy events. If you see people lining up for some odd reason at a “porta potty” while others remain vacant it’s most likely a secret entry to a speakeasy like a Tiki Bar. Look around, I’d be surprised if they didn’t do something again this year - maybe not a Porta Potty but something! Just look for a line of people at an unsuspecting location and you’ve found it.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
I like bringing a small foldable backpack to hold “stuff” from the event. It’s not like there’s a ton of freebies but if someone hands me a hat I’m taking it, along with the free samples and depending on the weather a light windbreaker (you are on the water, after all). In the past some booths would hand out tote bags but who wants to haul that around when you have a glass of wine in one hand and a food tray in the other? Pro Tip: They usually hand out little loaves of bread at the entry. Make sure you grab one but DON’T EAT IT until the event is over. You’ll really appreciate it on the drive or ride home. And don’t forget to grab a bottled water on the way out.
HOW ARE PEOPLE DRESSED?
I never found myself wishing I had dressed up at any of the events - even the “fancier” Grand Decant, now renamed Legends + Icons. While some of the 20 to 30 year olds came dressed like they were going out to a club in the Gaslamp, most people just dressed in normal attire, the sort of thing they might wear if a neighbor invited friends over for a BBQ. There were plenty of people in jeans and shorts, if that helps.
